The BBA program by IGNOU is designed especially for students aspiring to make a mark in the business and entrepreneurship field.
This course covers the main business theories combines with practical implementation to develop knowledge and skills in real-time management and business decision making.
IGNOU BBA is a 3 year Degree course divided into 6 semesters.
Though BBA being a Degree course, a student has the option of getting a certificate or diploma as follows:
- Certificate in Business Administration on successful completion of 2nd Semester
- Diploma in Business Administration on successful completion of 4th Semester
- BBA Degree on successful completion of 6th semester.

The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) programme is a 120 credits broad based programme. Its objective is to provide information and skills necessary to understand and analyse the main concepts of commerce and retailing. IGNOU offers this in both English and Hindi medium.
BBA (Retailing) #
BBA in Retailing is also a 3 year duration undergraduate course offered by IGNOU. It is a 132 credits programme including Internships, workbooks and Viva voce. IGNOU offers this in both English and Hindi medium.This course is designed to make the students ready for retail industry and to understand the nitty-gritties of a retail form of organization.
The students of this course has an option of yearly exit where they get a
- Diploma in Retailing (DIRIL) on completion of 1st year of the course
- Advanced Diploma in Retailing (ADIR) on completion of 2nd year of the course
- Bachelors degree in BBA in Retailing (BBARIL) on completion of 3rd year of the course
BBA (Services Management) #
BBA in Services Management a 3 year undergraduate course of 132 programme credits. The weightage of each credit is 30 hours of study. It is a very innovative programme in Services Management offered only in English medium.
This course is in collaboration with Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Ltd (MKCL) an initiative by the Government of Maharashtra.
This course is a work based learning initiative for aspirants through which students get to actually work in a service organization and also get stipend paid for it.
It is a one of its kind management program to study practical skills in a workplace.

Eligibility Criteria #
For BBA and BBA in Retailing the eligibility criteria is as follows:
- Students who have passed 10+2 or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
For BBA in Services Management the eligibility criteria is as follows:
- Students who have passed 10+2 or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
- Applicant should have attained at least 18 years of age
- Applicant should be working / willing to work in services industry as a full time Intern / Apprentice / Employee.
Evaluation Methodology #
The system of evaluation in IGNOU is different from that of conventional universities.
IGNOU has a multi-tier system of evaluation – self-assessment exercises within each unit of study, continuous evaluation mainly through assignments which are tutor-marked, practical assignments and seminar/workshops/extended contact programmes, term-end examination, project work, etc.
The evaluation of learners depends upon various instructional activities undertaken by them. A learner has to write assignment responses compulsorily before taking term-end examination from time to time to complete an academic programme.
A learner has to submit tutor marked assignments (TMA) responses to the Coordinator of the Study Centre concerned to which s/he is attached.
The evaluation methodology for BBA in Services Management is slightly different.
It consists of both Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) and Term End Examination (TEE) for Theory courses. Each course is of 100 marks.
- Theory Courses 30% CCE and 70% TEE
- Ability Enhancement courses 50% CCE and 50% TEE
- Work Based courses, Internship Report 100% TEE
Fee Structure #
- The total fee for IGNOU Online BBA (General) program is INR 30,900/-. The fee can be paid as INR 10,300/ per year.
- The total fees for IGNOU Online BBA (retailing) program is INR 32,400/-. The fee can be paid as INR 10,800/- per year.
- The total fee for IGNOU Online BBA (Services Management) program is INR 58,700. The fee can be paid as follows:
- INR 18,700/- for 1st year.
- INR 20,000/- for 2nd year.
- INR 20,000/- for 3rd year.
Fees has to be paid online at the time of admission.
Note: The Registration & Development fees as may be applicable at the time of admission are in addition to the course fees for all the courses. Also the examination fee is separately paid at the time of filing of examination forms.
Admission Process #
The admission process for IGNOU BBA is kept quite simple and quick for easy enrolment.
Candidates need to follow the following steps:
- Visit the official website of IGNOU admission.
- Fill in the preliminary basic details like name, contact, email etc. and create “User name” and “Password” on the website.
- The User name and Password will be informed to the students through SMS and email ID provided at the time of starting the registration.
- Re-login in the website using the user name and password to fill the admission form online.
- Students need to upload the following documents:
- recent passport size Photograph (maximum size 100KB in JPG format).
- specimen signature (maximum size 100KB in JPG format).
- scanned copies of the relevant documents like 10th/ 12th Class certificate , Identification proof like Aadhar, Caste & category certificate (if applicable).ABC ID and DEB ID.(maximum size 200KB each document in JPG/PDF format).
- Students should read the instruction and declaration carefully by clicking the ‘Declaration’ box.
- Preview the final form and confirm the data filled before submitting the form.
- Pay the program fees online via easy and secure ways like Net Banking, Credit/Debit card etc. as available for payments on the website. The Visa and Master Cards are accepted for making the payment of programme fee
- Payment confirmation message is sent to you through SMS and email
- Submit your application and complete your registration.
- After the final submission of online application form, your may download the filled in application form and keep a printout for your record

- As per UGC guidelines, all students who want to take admission in online BBA program need to create Academic Bank of Credits Identification Number (ABC ID), and Distance Education Bureau Identification number (DEB ID).
These IDs can be created at UGC website. Without ABD ID and DEB ID application cannot be submitted.
- If the payment has been deducted but you did not get acknowledgement for the same, please email the transaction details including the Control Number, your name, programme opted, mobile number, amount paid etc. to the Centralised Student Registration Cell or email the university.
The admission process for IGNOU BBA in Services Management is as follows:

- Login to your profile and complete the registration by filing in other required details.
- Students need to take an Online Entrance exam.
